On the great Columbia River is a place called Vantage. Less than 100 people live there, according to the last census. This is “shrub-steppe” natural grassland … beautiful but sparse.

And it’s windy … starts around 3pm and dies down early the next morning. Those who camp in tents, well, they don’t stay long! Tortuga highly recommends Wanapum State Park though … amazing scenery!

There are lots of areas for further investigation too. Ginkgo Petrified Forest (with many petroglyphs) … Wild Horse Wind Farm… Wild Horse monument … and lots more. This is the West.
